Hmmmm ... it seems to me that the conventional wisdom at the time was that John Rocker needed to be punished by baseball for his views. Whats so different about this?

Robbins started the bullying when he tried to use his "status" to influence our war stance.

He has nobody to blame but himself.

It's high time that jerk-off actors like Robbins realize that what they say in public can have consequences. All of them need to realize that the 1st Amendment is alive and well and that it goes both ways. Obviously this commie still doesn't get it, but he just might once his bank account starts to suffer because of his big mouth. They can all say whatever they want, but private citizens and corporations can also say what they want and take actions against them as well. For Robbins to cry about this is the height of arrogance. He's basically saying that he should not be challenged for his views because his point is the only one that matters. Yeah, he's real interested in democracy. </sarcasm>

I am so proud of the HOF I may actually start watching baseball again for the first time since the '94 lockout.

Eh, on second thought ... maybe I won't.

"I'm not sure what he was so scared about. As far as I knew, we weren't speaking. I wasn't even planning to wear makeup. And to politicize baseball is to violate the spirit of what it's all about."

You lie like Baghdad Bob, dude.

Glad you and your old lady got dumped!!!

Baseball is the all American sport and as such is not to be exploited by those that supporters genocidal maniac rulers when our sons and daughters in placed in harms way because of their public moral and financial support.

"Robbins knows plenty about the lore and history of baseball. He grew up in New York City playing stickball, stoopball and softball in the park and made the first of his four trips to Cooperstown as a 10-year-old."

So now he's an expert in all things baseball, PAH LEEEESSSSE..he sounds more like a professional Lollygagger to me!

The next thing these people will want is that the Manager in the dug out listen to their opinions about how the game should be played.

Shut up Meat!!

Can anyone compile or point to a source of Robbins/Sarandon quotes? This would help buttress me in discussions about the HOF's action.

Yesterday's USA Today had a quote from Robbins' letter to the Hall of Fame that said "I didn't know baseball was a Republican sport."

Petroskey should write back and say "You are correct Mr. Robbins, baseball is not a Republican sport. But, it is an American sport and that is why you are not welcome at the Hall of Fame."

I don't know what to think. My understanding was they decided to cancel this because Sarandon and Robbins would not agree not to make a political speech.

So what's the real story?

I'm not a Baseball player, but I play one on TV.

How can this guy even talk about the Hall of Fame when his sole accomplishment is to only act like a Baseball player in front of a camera?

Don't go to DU and bad mouth these folks or Michael Moore. You'll get kicked out. Those DU folks are way too much into hollywood hero worship. Made me want to puke. They don't want to discuss crap, they all just sit around and give each other these big cyber hugs.

Please, if you want to support the Baseball Hall of Fame, you can buy a membership. A one year individual membership is $40, while a child membership is $20. There are other levels to suit.

I just bought a child membership for my son's birthday.

If that doesn't suit you, please send an e-mail of support.

Baseball's place in American life, while hardly as prominent as it was once, still matters.

During World War II, President Roosevelt ordered the games to go on

Republican Ted Williams sacrificed his own glory at playing this kids' game to fight for America... twice. If he had stayed home he could have racked up even more runs and records but he saw a bigger picture.

It's America's Passtime, not America's Profession.
