They're surprised that it could spread in the workplace?
It seems like a no brainer to me.

I've worried about this where I work. I work for a Canadian company, and I'm responsible for system disaster recovery. I posed the question to an HR person the other day, asking "ok, what happens if the systems are fine but the people are all either sick or confined to their homes?". I also asked them if they had considered limiting travel between the Canadian offices and the US, and maybe putting out a memo encouraging sick employees to stay home.
They just gave me a blank look. They hadn't considered any of it, and when I pressed them they blew it off.
First time I hear of a case near me I'm going to start working from home....

The suspect virus has been found in the feces of the infected. Wash your hands thoroughly whenever you leave a public toilet.

I just bought some hand-cleaning lotion to use in my office.

Perhaps some companies forgot to put a paragraph in their personel manuals banning epidemics on company property.

I'm a 'stay-at-home' type anyway.

Oh, great. They're concerned about SARS spreading in the workplace as it has happened in Florida, but they DECLINE to give us the location. How can they ever expect to contain this thing if they withhold such information?

"First time I hear of a case near me I'm going to start working from home...."
And shopping for groceries from home? And the local pharmacy is bound to be a good place to catch it too. This dilemma really has some interesting ramifications since this bug supposedly lives for a day at least on metal/plastic.
Meanwhile keep a can of lysol handy.

Get another bottle of hand cleaner for the car and some lysol/clorox spray for the office...if nothing else it will make you feel somewhat prepared.

I don't worry as much about contact at the grocery, pharmacy etc. because it's easier to remember not to touch your face and to wash your hands after a quick trip like that.
But trying not to touch my eyes/nose/mouth for 8 - 10 hours each day at work would be really tough. From what it sounds like the more intense the contact the more likely you'd get it. If it shows up here then avoiding as much close contact as you can seems to be prudent.
The type of job I have is easy to do at home, anyway (easier, sometimes - no interruptions). It would depend on the boss anyway, but I know him real well and if the thing shows up at work he'd probably be racing me to the door.
