Maybe the reporter asked the family what they were doing while at the hospital and they said they were going to spend time with her, grab some food in the cafeteria, and then donate some blood later on. They didn't hold a press conference to announce it, a reporter just reported it. Don't see how they are "wearing it on their sleeves".

If you can't learn that someone is doing something nice without attributing that to some sort of cynical motive, perhaps that reveals more about yourself than those you comment on.
