Long as you're feeling empowered it was all worthwhile. That's really the bottom line for most of them. Push them a bit, and their justification always comes back to "It made me feel like I made a difference", "It was nice to know I wasn't alone", or "I felt empowered" The actual result of what they do seems to be of very little importance to them. It's always about them.
