I thought it was Spanish for "little war." Guerro meaning war, adding the 'illa' makes it diminuative. I like the visual of calling them Gorillas. Sort of the same skill at war.

that would be guerrita. guerrilla is "one who wars". Funny thing about the word guerra. It derives deeper back in spanish history to gothic/germanic rule from warra (war) but spanish routinely replaced W sounds which were somewhat foreign (theirs sounds more like a b) with GW/GU.
