On another note ... I love this LIVE thread just the way it has been. All the info I have needed and fun to ease the tension. My tongue (metaphorical) is bleeding from not being my usual self when it comes to cWanky cWy babies but this thread has been worth it.

the russians built the facility according to loftus. the russians concerned that there would be "another chernobyl" if the US had used bunker busters on this facility. very interesting.

Hmmm. Now this brings up a very interesting thought. All of these warehouses of chemical drums, potential WMD warheads, mobile bio labs, and now the underground nuclear facility... NONE of them were bombed by us. We bombed the heck out of that country. We had something like 4000? 6000? 8000? targets before we started, not including targets of opportunity.

Sounds like we knew EXACTLY what was in those facilities, and we didn't want to blow them up (a) so we wouldn't disperse NBC into the atmosphere and cause a disaster, and (b) so we could document the AlJazeerus out of it so all the would would know the truth.

the pentagon briefing should be used as a forum to push these stories, so they cannot be ignored.

They've started pushing certain angles in the briefings. Showing videos of humanitarian aid. Telling stories of atrocities and such.

I was very gratified to see the two minute video production MSNBC came up with yesterday in honor of yesterday's events. They even titled it "Beautiful Day" and it was so well done. Rumsfeld gave an excellent statement yesterday to open the briefing. It was like a speech and included a quote from George Washington. Well, MSNBC incorporated his voice, as well as others like Dick Cheney, into this video piece.

I do think they are savvy in this area. I also think they'll gauge what points to push if they see it isn't getting attention or is being distorted (which happens all the time). So, I do not think they'll let facts get buried, and we have not heard the last of that.
