Thought on this historic day, (9 April 2003) I would share a little of what some Japanese are saying in Japanese over on the Yahoo! Japan message boards.
Without a doubt, there have been anti-USA messages over there, but there has also been a good uptick, IMHO, of Japanese supporting the USA and who now feel vindicated based on what the world is clearly witnessing in Baghdad.
One of my favorite posts today is from a Japanese poster called "Iraq Specialist", just now (again in Japanese):
"The Japanese news media, particularly Asahi Shimbun and TV Asahi, were filled with anti-American comments and reporting during this thing. However, that only served to 'prop up' and defend the man who was --a violator of human rights, --a dictator -- and oppressor--in other words, Saddam Hussein. OK, you people, all of you, people who got whipped up over this with anti-American comments here, you people who became (what a joke!) so-called 'human shields', you people who went out in Japan to march in anti-US demonstrations--all of you, must reflect on your mistakes!--Iraq Specialist"
I love it. There is more fun where that came from.
I've posted the link if anyone wants to do a babelfish translation of the Japanese on the Yahoo Japan site.

Nice to hear. Don't ever forget this one though.
BILL O'REILLY: If you are wrong
and if the United States - and they will, this is going to happen - goes in, liberates Iraq [with] people in the street, American flags, hugging our soldiers
you gonna apologize to George W. Bush?
JANENE GARAFALO: I would be so willing to say, "I'm sorry". I hope to God that I can be made a buffoon of, that people will say, "You were wrong. You were a fatalist". And I will go to the White House on my knees on cut glass and say, "Hey, you and Thomas Friedman were right
I shouldn't have doubted you"

bump...
and thanks in advance to our Japanese friends who are already committed to
greatly helping in rebuilding Iraq and in humanitarian efforts.
Y'all may not speak a Latin-based/Romance language...but with the French...that make
y'all that much more appealing!

Thanks, AIT - and big kudos to the leader of Japan who fearlessly, like President Bush and Prime Minister Blair, endured their critics while going ahead with the RIGHT THING TO DO! God brings the right leaders to power and just the right time - when the world seems most to need them.

I bet she's havin' a bad day. *snicker* She can start by crushing all of my empty Snapple bottles. She may need Hillary on her shoulders, though. JG may be too light to get the job done by herself:

She'll just say, "But not EVERYONE was happy about it, Bill!" and hold up this picture:
"So I don't have to apologize, or do the cut-glass thing!"

"All your wankers"
On Fox a few minutes ago, I saw an Iraqi holding a sign that said something like "all your human shields are wankers" or something like that. The english was a little awkward, but the point was crystal clear. I WANT to find a still capture of that - it was CLASSIC!

All your wankers are belong to us...
p Proper form requires
a singular subject ie, all your wanker
are belong to us.
