I am sure glad I live in a state that is not as enlightened as Kalifornica. I cannot wait until September for the first dove hunt. Nothing is prettier than a bird dog on a point. I took care of the Grand National Champion Birddogs for 1984,1985, 1987 and 1988. Beagles setting down on a rabbit chase make a sound that is unique and pleasant to rabbit hunters. Food is food and pets are pets and those that care to differ can eat tofu all they want but they had better leave me alone.

My wife is a master falconer. She had to take hunter's safety classes (firearms oriented) to get a hunting license. You shold never point your falcon at something unless you are planning to shoot it, keep your finger off the falcon's trigger, and you should always consider your falcon to be loaded. Also, don't drink and use your falcon. :-)

A storm of sportsmens contacts to legislators caused Koretz to amend AB 342 to prohibit only the pursuit and taking of black bear and bobcat with hounds. So when bears get to be a problem we're supposed to... This is really stupid.

The fact that the two sponsors came from Marin County and West Hollywood should answer your question.

Doves AIN'T endangered...they are a crop pest...and are delicious wrapped in bacon and served with rice!

I forgot another falconry problem. My wife brings a dog to the field to flush rabbits from the brush when she hunts with a Red Tail hawk. The bill would make it impossible to bring the dog too. What idiots.
My wife is very competent handler of firearms. I even trust her reloading skills on a fairly narrow range of handgun calibers.
The most important thing to take to the field with a bird of prey is munchies for the bird. If they get engrossed in the joys of soaring on a sunny day, you may be quite screwed. A half of a dead rabbit in your bag is a real plus.

There is nothing special about either. And there is certainly no reason from a wildlife management position to propose either of these bills. Actually, from a wildlife management point-of-view there is every reason to oppose these bills -- as the Department of Fish and Game did.
All I know for sure is that the persons who introduced these bills come from very liberal areas where PETA, Greenpeace and other organizations have major sway and all hunting is abhorred on ethical grounds.
