That's where the Marines see the grand irony...In a nation with some of the world's largest petroleum reserves, Saddam saw the need for nuclear energy.

No need to color your story with your own bias.
Just assign it to an unnamed, unquoted Marine.

If you do a Yahoo News Search for 'Al-Tuwaitha', you get the new title, but the short paragraph is still about the nuclear facility.

Want to count how many minutes/hours of TV time have been spent on two journalists the past 24 hours?

Nothing in the NY Times (of course), nothing in the Wash. Post, nothing in the LA Times, nothing on US TV, nothing on the 4 national networks, nothing (yet) on Fox!, nothing on Times, Newsweek ....

SOUTH OF BAGHDAD — In a valley sculpted by man, between the palms and roses, lies a vast marble and steel city known as Al-Tuwaitha.

In the suburbs about 18 miles south of the capital's suburbs, this city comprises nearly 100 buildings — workshops, laboratories, cooling towers, nuclear reactors, libraries and barracks — that belong to the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission.

Investigators Tuesday discovered that Al-Tuwaitha hides another city. This underground nexus of labs, warehouses, and bomb-proof offices was hidden from the public and, perhaps, International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors who combed the site just two months ago, until the U.S. Marine Corps Combat Engineers discovered it three days ago.

Today, the Marines hold it against enemy counter-attacks.

Sites reporting it include Canada.com, WorldNetDaily, Guardian UK, IrishExaminer, EconomicTimes India, & MidDay Mumbai India. Most just cite the Pittsburgh Times article.

Do journalists have certain rights on their stories? Can they sue if a news outlet doesn't use their own reporters/sources to find a story? I know you have to have permission to use photos/film...remember the flack FNC got when the used the Challenger film without permission.

Most US newspapers belong to AP and their stories are propagated on the AP wires for other newspapers to publish. Television agreements are usually network based, so NBC can air footage from an NBC affiliate, but Fox must get permission first.

It will take some time for this story to get the play it deserves because most editors and reporters have the scientific understanding of a Labrador retriever. The bigger papers also have bias against "lesser" newspapers in smaller cities and will wait until their reporters can get on scene.
