They don't have to prove it. And you don't need so called experts to tell you the obvious. Leave a whole category of foods out of your diet and there'll be consequences. Common sense.

A common misconception about the Atkins diet is that the ZERO carb phase only lasts two weeks. AFter that, you increase your carb intake to your liking and purpose. I have been on "low-carb" diets where I eat hundreds of grams of carbs per day, depending on my energy expediture and workouts, for the day.

Leave a whole category of foods out of your diet and there'll be consequences. Common sense. I leave fungi out of my diet altogether... so far I've seen no adverse consequences.

Leave a whole category of foods out of your diet and there'll be consequences. Common sense. Nonsense. Human beings DO NOT NEED SUGAR! And that's all that refined carbohydrates are.
Also, human beings do not need bananas or any other high-sugar fruit. Berries, apples and low-glycemic fruits and non-starchy vegetables give the human organism everything it needs.
Humans also don't need dairy, of any kind.
The Atkins diet has been around for nearly 35 years, and there is no medical evidence that it is detrimental.

According to Michael R. Eades, M. D. and Mary Dan Eades, M. D. in their book, "Protein Power":
"The actual amount of carbohydrate required by humans for health is zero." Chapter 1, p8 in the Bantam paperback.

Then class of food to leave out of your diet is sugar.
Pretzels, pasta, crackers, cookies, white bread, white rice, instant potatoes, jams, candies, etc.
Sugar is what causes High cholesterol, high blood pressure, hardening of the arteries...

You don't "leave a whole category of foods" out of your diet. You reduce them. After the first 14 days on Atkins during which you are allowed 20grms of carbs, you are allowed up to 60grms of carbs.
I understand what the medicos are trying to say but there is a huge disconnect between their advice and reality. These are the same people who advocated NO FAT, eat lots of grains etc. in effect causing the problem in the first place, imho. The "rise in obeisity" is directly tied to the low fat mantra, the introduction of high fructose corn sweetner and the change in the weight table which immediately lead to more people falling into the "obese" category. It is a made up "crisis" by these food nazis and nannies.
Their "balanced" approach does not lead to losing weight...it only leads to keeping the weight steady. Most people such as myself, need to lose weight first before trying the "balanced" approach.

Leave a whole category of foods out of your diet and there'll be consequences. Common sense. Yeah, like all those ancestors of ours before refrigeration who lived most of the year on salt pork and corn meal and survived into their 80s and 90s.
We have animals further down the food chain to process vegetables and fruits into tasty and healthful meat. Why should we do their jobs?

Yep. It's called losing weight.

I'm surprised that there are so many boosters of the Atkins Diet here. That diet is nuts! Yeah, you probably will lose weight on it. But that's not the point. Giving up (or seriously cutting back on) such healthy foods as oatmeal, bread, pasta, corn, rice, and about a dozen other foods that are very nutritious is not the way to go. The Atkins diet also restricts beer and wine - drinks that are proven to be very healthy for your heart and cholesterol levels.
The proponents of the diet will keep saying that it works, it works! Of course it works! People lose weight on the grapefruit diet too. But at what cost to your overall health?
