Hey, one man's "Allah Achbar" is another's "Praise God" or "Glory Hallellujia!" we suppose. I am Praising my God as they do theirs at the dawn of Freedom over there.
I might have gotten some of the lyrics mixed up on the Hammer Song there, but I'm sure a lot of my Generation remembers it!
You know, that noose they've got around bronze saddamned looks a lot like the heavy manilla lines I see coiled up on the decks of some of those amphibious USMC "Hammerhead" vehicles thereabouts. Just a coincidence, don't you suppose?
OK! Theyre hooking up the APC now - 1008 hrs ET!

LIVE WITH A TANK RETRIEVER PULLING IT DOWN!!
To: Knuckle Sandwich Combo
Is that a tank...it's being swarmed by Iraqis and western reporteres while a couple of the more whacky Iraqi's climb the rope back onto the statue. This is some amazing stuff.

OK. Not a tank, but a large armored vehicle.

They're assembling to one side apparently to pull the statue down. I love it! Here comes a tank to help!!!

Looks like they are clearing the crowd from the base of the statue.
To: SENTINEL
Yes - I knew it wasn't a "tank" as FNC said - thought it was an APC but on closer exam u r rite!

Am I the one one that thinks it amazing that I can watch this liberation from my laptop on RealPlayer?
To: kattracks
It's a good thing Iraq's OSHA is out of business. They'd all be wearing hard hats and safety goggles.

Y'know, this would be a lot more satisfying if it was the actual Saddam instead of a cheesey giant statue...they're putting a second smaller rope around the legs of the statue now

I'll jump in here to say the symbolism is magnificant.
The Iraqui's are trying but just can't manage......
With a little help and tools from The US Marines, the statue is coming down. The marines apparently watched and the help came after they were asked.

That guy sliding down the rope has rope burns.
To: BCrago66
Isn't it wonderful? I'm watching it via RealPlayer, too. I can't wait to see it fall, then I might actually get some work done today.
To: Delta 21
The are beautifying downtown Baghdad. Are you watching, Lady Bird?
