Trial Lawyer Quits Mississippi Gov. Race

JACKSON, Miss. - Trial lawyer John Arthur Eaves Jr. dropped out of the Mississippi governor's race Tuesday, leaving Gov. Ronnie Musgrove without a big-name opponent in the Democratic primary.

John Arthur Eaves Jr. said the campaign was taking too much time away from his family. He did not immediately endorse Musgrove or any of the four lesser-known Democratic candidates.

Musgrove campaign manager Lisa McMurray said the campaign wished Eaves luck in his future endeavors. Mississippi Democratic Party Chairman Rickey Cole said Eaves' decision will let Musgrove save energy and money to face the Republicans.

Party primaries will be held Aug. 5, and the general election is Nov. 4.

In the Republican primary, former Republican National Committee Chairman Haley Barbour faces trial lawyer Mitch Tyner.

Eaves ran unsuccessfully for a central Mississippi congressional seat in 1996, losing to Republican Chip Pickering.

This doesn't pass the smell test. I wonder what threat/bribe the 'Rats offered up to Eaves not to make trouble for the endangered Muskrat ?

the campaign was taking too much time away from his family.

This is code for "skeleton in the closet"..
He was made an offer he could not refuse.
Drop out of the race, or have his "dirty laundry" aired in public.

Hm, interesting . . . there's still the "Republican" primary challenger, trial lawyer Mitch Tyner, who just happens to donate to the DNC, et al.

Eaves probably just got assurances of Rat backing for some other post that he wanted, like governor in 2007 or whatever.
