had a friend mention that Vietnam syndrome is officially over in the Pentagon. I said it was gone after Panama and Libya. And as I look at the cheering crowds I have to wonder what a little more competency and technology might have done at the time to have cheering troops in Havana and Hanoi and have avoided decades of fear for those poor people. Bush - "We will accept no outcome but total victory" Can you imagine Kennedy saying that about Fidel or Johnson/Nixon that (and following through) about Nam. We always had the means, just not the leadership.

Well said. Who knew that this man had such inner strength? Why not? I've been thinking about Castro, too, and the stories of oppression from Miami Cuban-Americans who have been mocked and ignored by our press the way they ignored the tales of horror from Dearborn Iraqi-Americans. Our mainstream press has some explaining to do.

I think some Vietnam war scars were healed, too.
