I think that is what ticked me off the most about Shep's lecture.....saying that there wasn't much difference between being embedded with our military and having a minder in the hotel.

Couldn't agree with you more. Shep got this one wrong. There is no comparison.

Any "journalist" who agreed to stay in Baghdad as a "guest" of the Iraqi government basically agreed to become a propaganda tool, since they can't say or show anything that their minders don't want them too. Our embedded reporters, on the other hand, have been showing live, real-time images directly from the front lines.

Thankfully, we have seen steady US victory, but it is just as easy to imagine a situation where Greg Kelly is live as a Bradley takes a kill shot, or even worse, one of the soldiers riding in the vehicle next to him takes one. It could have happened, and still might, so to compare the two seems a stretch to me.
