"Wish You Were Here"

For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.

Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help!  If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

Dear Sir:

Obviously, you are a veteran of the Vietnam War.

I was a young boy at the time, I remember only some things.

One in particular was how wrong it felt that the people around me didn't support our troops.

The images of the protesters being "less than civil" (putting it mildly) to our returning forces are a permanent part of me.

I was too young to stop them then, but I promise you that I won't ever be quiet about such things again. Maybe in some small way, that makes up for a tiny fraction of the pain that you and the other men suffered at the hands of those anti-Americans. Maybe not.

But please take from me an honest apology for such treatment; you deserved so much better.

Thank You.

PS: I've enjoyed your posts!
Bruce.

Baseball Hall of Fame Cancelled "Bull Durham" Tribute, Cite Robins and Sarandon
Posted on 04/09/2003 6:18 PM EDT by RetiredArmy

ESPN.com news services, Wednesday, April 9, 2003

Plans to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the popular baseball movie Bull Durham later this month in Cooperstown, N.Y. were cancelled Wednesday because of anti-war criticisms made by two of the film's co-stars.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum issued a release saying the recent views expressed by Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon "ultimately could put our troops in even more danger."

The event, scheduled for April 26-27, had been planned many months ago, according to Hall of Fame president Dale Petroskey.

The statement reads:

"The President of the United States, as this nation's democratically-elected leader, is constitutionally bound to make decisions he believes are in the best interests of the American people. After months of careful deliberations, President Bush made the decision that it is in our nation's best interests to end the brutal regime of Saddam Hussein, and to disarm Iraq of deadly weapons which could be used against its enemies, including the United States. In order to accomplish this, nearly 300,000 American military personnel are in harm's way at the moment. From the first day we opened our doors in 1939, The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum -- and many players and executives in Baseball's family -- has honored the United States and those who defend our freedoms.

"In a free country such as ours, every American has the right to his or her own opinions, and to express them. Public figures, such as you, have platforms much larger than the average American's, which provides you an extraordinary opportunity to have your views heard -- and an equally large obligation to act and speak responsibly. We believe your very public criticism of President Bush at this important -- and sensitive -- time in our nation's history helps undermine the U.S. position, which ultimately could put our troops in even more danger. As an institution, we stand behind our President and our troops in this conflict.

"As a result, we have decided to cancel the April 26-27 programs in Cooperstown commemorating the 15th anniversary of Bull Durham."

Petroskey said a copy of the statement was sent to Sarandon and Robbins. It is not known if they have seen or responded to the decision.

And they never recounted those thrown out military ballots, I think.

If nothing else, I always like to remind fellow freepers that if not for voter fraud on the part of the left, Bush would have won both the electoral vote and the popular vote.

Ya know, it will be awesome to see our troops on the Bagcam when first light appears. On the other hand, tomorrow in Bagdhad could see a day of retributions, riots, looting, etc. Could get dicey...just a hunch.

"Why don't those damn Democrats give President Bush his day? He WON!!"

Never thought I'd hear it from Matthews!

And I still hold that if it wasn't for us in Tennessee taking his theorhetical "home state" from him, he'd have won.

I'm a Tennesean now, but I was an Ohioan when I voted for him. Actually, I was a bit sceptical at the time. I am far from sceptical now!!
