"Wish You Were Here"

For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.

Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help!  If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

US special operations forces have sabotaged Kirkuk-Banias pipeline cutting flow of illegal Iraqi oil exports smuggled through Syria. Damascus notifies buyers that 2003 supply diminished by 40pc, equal to 240,000bpd ? exactly the quantity that Iraq previously pumped through.

Oh boy, do I hope this is true.

I'm hoping the Marines will lay out enough cable so the Iraqis can grab on and do the job themselves.

Yep -- take the flags down. THis is the downfall of a regime, not the downfall of a country. The country is being liberated.

Try 1 to get the Saddam statue down failed because of a snapped rope. M-88 now in with a chain to bring it down.

Iraqi flag now off the Saddam statue. Fire up those webcams.

When that chain goes around Saddamn's neck, he will wear a moose and be pulled down by the people of Iraq; but his people will be free of the moose around THEIR necks and be lifted up by their bootstraps!

The Iraqi people finally feel safe enough to pour onto the streets of Baghdad where they have been thanking our troops, trying to take down the big statue of Saddam...used sledgehammers, put up rope, then we brought in tank retriever to help, attached chain to Saddam, our guys put up US flag on Saddam's head, took down and gave to an Iraqi who waved it..US Marine replaced with Iraqi flag on Saddam's head, Iraqis left cars to join the crowd by the statue...we are pulling down SADDAM!
