Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

Wait, are you seriously telling us that the folks at DU are looking and cheering Iraqis, watching them attack this statue, and are STILL NOT HAPPY about this??

I was sad when the "two Germanys" united (I was 9 years old). Yeah, lol, I was sad, because I liked the old form of the borders one can see on a map... a silly thought and some years later when I realized how important reunification was, I became a supporter of that great process.

It's absolutely heartwarming to watch these Iraqis celebrate. AMEN!
To: Norman Arbuthnot
They're trying to get the folks away from the impact zone. We've got a bunch of witnesses for Baghdad Bob on the M-88.

How much you want to bet we are trying to teach an Iraqi how to drive the vehicle so he can pull it down instead of us.

crowd's backing up...ARV M-88 is bouncing up and down...we're close now!
To: GOPyouth
I can't believe that the DU crowd, much of the media, Europe, and the middle east are depressed today. Let them be. I have a good feeling about this. Iraq will be resented by every tinpot dictator in the region. We will make sure that the military debts that Saddam owes to China, Russia, and France are wiped out. The country will be rebuilt, and it will terrify Mubarek, the house of Saud, Assad, Iran...

There is a big surprise. Either there or Syria. He's a coward nothing more nothing less. A full fledged terrorist coward.

Is this a rumor that al-jazeera is reporting that he has taken refuge in a russian emabassy, or is al-jazeera actually reporting it?

They're never happy about anything. Especially when that "anything" involves a REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT being RIGHT!!!

To an Athlete Dying Young
(Dedicated to our fallen heroes)
The time you won your town the race
We chaired you through the market-place;
Man and boy stood cheering by,
And home we brought you shoulder-high.
To-day, the road all runners come,
Shoulder-high we bring you home,
And set you at your threshold down,
Townsman of a stiller town.
Smart lad, to slip betimes away
From fields where glory does not stay
And early though the laurel grows
It withers quicker than the rose.
Eyes the shady night has shut
Cannot see the record cut,
And silence sounds no worse than cheers
After earth has stopped the ears:
Now you will not swell the rout
Of lads that wore their honours out,
Runners whom renown outran
And the name died before the man.
So set, before its echoes fade,
The fleet foot on the sill of shade,
And hold to the low lintel up
The still-defended challenge-cup.
And round that early-laurelled head
Will flock to gaze the strengthless dead,
And find unwithered on its curls
The garland briefer than a girl's.
