Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

Al jazeera wants American escortThen they have to surrender just like the rest of the regime. ;-)

Me too,,why is our cam neighborhood so quiet.
To: Catspaw
They are like a dog with a bone on this story. Too bad they aren't the same about all the other horrible things going on in Iraq all these years.
And you can bet your ASS that if they were in trouble, they'd be screaming for the U.S. to come save them.

I like Brooks a lot. Cuts to the chase, no BS, very businesslike, very respectful and restrained despite the level of inanity directed at him sometimes. I agree with this and I also like the way he says Baghdad.
To: Catspaw
Isn't it ironic? They claim after the war that they had these mean minders with guns who made them say bad things about the US but then they claim that nobody shot from their hotel.

I have one stupid question...
Why weren't they wearing flak jackets and helmets? Most of them had on NOTHING but regular clothing(filthy lookiing regular clothing).

I'd bet it's because the Palestine Hotel is on the list of protected sites, which means the fedayeen are going to use it for sanctuary--and for targeting our troops.
To: kcvl
Just a stupid question,,do these soldiers take showers while fighting this war,,I mean have our marines not changed clothes for the past two weeks, do they bring fresh unders with them? Never thought of this before.
To: Catspaw
As soon as CeNTCOM is over, I'm gonna switch back to CBS. I want Pretty Chicken on camera when tanks roll in!
3--2--1, tanks at 11 O'clock!
And, as for that statue...I want to see the Marines take it and deliver it to the White House!

Just a guess--so they can easily blend back into the population. Or are you asking about the media?

Yes she said it. I think the idea is we're trying not to go anywhere near that area so if any shooting happens on journalists, it can only be Iraqi. The Iraqis set up a hornet's nest around the reporters to try and trap us into killing them. We won't fall for it again. General Brooks is right. They have to get out of the area on their own. My question for that woman reporter is how are several reporters now out and about, getting reports from all over Baghdad? How are they able to move around and not get shot like she says their people are?

Media didn't have on flak jackets or helmets. At least, not many of them(maybe one or two).

NTV has a new view...much higher than we've seen before. You can see the entire roundabout and intersecting streets.
Maybe they see something coming???

Oh, this one's rich...reporter just said we're violating the Geneva Convention. I can't believe Brooks can hold himself back. The man must have infinite patience.
