Yeah I know. I haven't got squat from either site. I was just putting that down to emphasize a point, i.e., that in the areas I'm searching, all the job postings are for engineers. And some pocket protector envy: I guess I never got over kicking myself in the arse for not going into eng. in the first place...

I know abstract thinking or compassion are two items that you are unfamiliar with, but let me try to explain.

Many of these people sacrificed a great deal for the education that you are so clearly jealous of and likely incapable of of receiving.

Many (including myself) have done every job in the sun to pay for those educations and worked their a**'s off during their careers. The government then pulls the rug out from under them ... after they have invested much of their money and lives... by allowing in huge numbers of foreign workers who will work as educated slaves. The market is fine, the tech industry is robust... it is just that almost all the new tech jobs now go to slave labor from various countries or the projects now are oursourced to those countries.

I know you don't care because it doesn't effect YOU. But it will... and soon. You plan on putting air conditioners in homes in India? You kill the middle and upper middle class and you kill the off the group that buys your services.

That's correct. If you say you would work if employment were available, but aren't actively looking, then you don't go into the official unemployment figure - you're a "discouraged" jobless worker. If you say you would not work even if employment were available, then you are not considered part of the labor pool at all.

You should also add that most of the posting are originated by placement services, and much of the rest amounts to some flavor of fraud. These mass classified systems are worthless. Virtually none of those positions are real.

Fine. Let's let in great numbers air conditioning techs from India who will work for 4 bucks an hour. Let's see how you fair then. PS Attempting to work in your trained field is not laziness.

Don't feel bad ... I have advanced degrees in Electrical Engineering and 25 years experience .... and I was out all last year ... nearly lost everything I worked my whole life for. Sure can't make those mortgage payments on $7 an hour. Can't sell the house cause no one's buying and don't want to lose my equity by going into forclosure .... thank God I found a job ... I am one of the VERY lucky ones. I tried to get a low paying temp job ... forget it. I was told flat out that laid off high tech workers are not being hired ... cause the company knows that when things get better in high tech those workers will be gone. Starting a business takes capital and time ... money does NOT start coming in for quite awhile. In the meantime how does one make the mortgage ?

My ex husband lost his job to Indian workers after 20 years as a top-notch technical writer. August before they laid him off they sent him to Mexico for three weeks to train those people. Before that, he taught classes. What did he get for his trouble? THE BOOT.

The company is Alcatel which is owned by the French. If you know anyone that works for this POS company give them my humble regards....NOT

Sun Micro is being sued for this right now. It's been in the news. By the way the adjusted (realistic) high tech unemployment figures printed in the Merky News is over 33%. The mortgage default rate per Merky News and KGO TV is 49% in the Bay Area

Easy. Become a Mexican citizen, and cross back into the US as an illegal immigrant. You'll get more of your taxes back that way.

Our "rulers" in DC really don't care about the American worker. Why should they worry about one vote, when they bring in two legal immigrants, and three illegal immigrants for a total of five votes?

My son just graduated from Penn State with a 4-year degree in mechanical engineering and he already snagged a $50,000 a year job (plus bennies) at a Fortune 500 company, and he was just called by three other companies to interview.

Myself, I work in a field that, if I was laid off, I could probably find another similar job although I would have to travel maybe 50 miles to get there.

Come to think of it, it might be nice to change to a different career. Sometimes it gets boring doing the same thing all your life.
