Steely Dan Confirms First Tour In Three Years
Steely Dan has unveiled details for its first tour since the summer of 2000, kicking off July 23 in Costa Mesa, Calif., and wrapping Aug. 31 in Syracuse, N.Y. The veteran jazz/rock outfit will be touring in support of its upcoming Reprise album, "Everything Must Go," which has been bumped to June 10 from its original May 6 release date. As the band explained in its online newsletter, "the reason, we understand, has to do with something called 'a schedule' for some entity called 'the record company.'"
"Everything Must Go" finds group leaders Donald Fagen and Walter Becker backed by drummer Keith Carlock, keyboardists Ted Baker and Bill Charlap, and guitarists Jon Herrington and Hugh McCracken. Beyond his usual bass and guitar duties, Becker takes the mic on one as-yet-unnamed tune, marking his first lead vocal in Steely Dan's history.
The album is the follow-up to 2000's "Two Against Nature," which was the group's first album since 1980's "Gaucho" and went on to win the Grammy for album of the year.

Check out this excerpt from Naked Lunch Nauseating and depressing, like Lucas Samaras. So terrified of women and sex, victims of their own pathologies.

Never did care for them, even though Steve Gadd played drums for them.
I think their music is boring like Pat Metheny!

Wow. What kind of music do you like?

I like all kinds of music. I'm listening to classical on the radio right now.
I was raised on rock 'n roll but as time goes by I've learned to like all kinds of music. I can't explain it, but I've just never liked Steely Dan. It's a mystery of the mind (and ear drum)! =^)
Some of my fave rock bands are:
10 Years After
Bad Company
Paul Rodgers (solo)
Mountain
Talking Heads
Rod Stewart & Small Faces
But I also like:
Alison Krauss & Union Station
Patty Loveless
Maire Brennan
Celine Dion
Sinatra
Buddy Rich
Gene Krupa
Billie Holliday
Etc, etc., etc.
OK, I'm leaving now!

Hey now, Celine Dion has one of the most wonderful versions of "America" I've ever listened to.
Besides, some people like Kathie Lee...

Seriously, in terms of skill and technique, there's nothing wrong with Celine Dion, and I can see why people enjoy listening to her.
I just have a minimum soul requirement. : )

A Dildo?Becker and Fagan are too clever by half. Several of the their songs have overtly homosexual themes, e.g., "Rikki Don't Lose that Number," "Gaucho" etc. I try to ignore the more flaming lyrics and ranchy allusions and concentrate on the music--which is absolutely first class. But it is Fagan's solo effort "The Nightfly" that is my favorite SD-flavored CD.

Regarding
AJA, I agree. I have all their albums, now CDs, up to
Gaucho. The digital recording of
The Nightfly, by Fagan, is an all time favorite of mine.
If I had to pick only one song by them, it'd be Time Out Of Mind from Gaucho. Mark Knopfler playing his usual understated style on that, if memory serves me correctly (too lazy to look right now). The references to 'Chasin' the dragon' .....

Picking one favorite Dan tune...that would be a difficult thing to do. I love "The Boston Rag" - that guitar line that repeats throughout is magical, imo. When I saw them at the Gorge in 2000, the sun was setting behind them when they played that...it was just incredible.
(This year, encores were "My Old School" and "FM" - it was a perfect night, in every way.)

Her song from 'Titanic' was (and might still be) the most played song at weddings!
I have a prob with her and Babs though! =^)
