Peppered isn't the word for it. Having them come in over you while shooting is an amazing experience - especially when they're really low (below 100 feet). Those bursts are literally streams of depleted uranium. Just the downpour of spent casings is dangerous - if you're looking up they can kill you.

Being in a range tower...while an A-10 came in on a run (at Ft L Wood, MO) was a most thrilling moment in my career. Absolutely amazing. I can still here that gun...and any Iraqi who hears is will have to change their shorts.

Just the downpour of spent casings is dangerous - if you're looking up they can kill you. IIRC there are no spent casings ejected. One of the design difficulties of the Warthog was that the cannon fires so fast the spent casings could rip up the wings if they were ejected. Therefore they are kept inside the weapon system. I may be remembering wrong or things may have changed.
I do know the cannon is powerful enough to stop the Warthog in the sky if the plane is flying slowly enough. I also once saw what a 2 second burst did to a 30 foot pile of sand. I would definately not want to be the enemy of a Warthog.
Shalom.
