M1 Abrams have HEAT and Sabot..... both rounds are of different weights and have a selector switch...... if you fire a sabot on the heat setting you will observe the round go into orbit as the elevation is a lot higher than what you intended..... In this case I think they hit what they intended.... a sad mistake of the war they think they are taking fire from the building and they see a guy with binos watching them they think he is a observer and take him out.... in the situation they are in there is no time to wait for something to happen.......

Or.... they may have actually seen RPG fire coming from the building (can you shoot RPG's from that kind of range? The rackies have been trying to reinforce the Palestine for days, pulling humand shields from the water plant and putting them at the hotel. I don't like seeing innocents hurt, but I DO like seeing our guys saying "pc is not worth our soldier's lives." and taking out the threats as they develop.
