NTV Bagdad was black for a bit, then picked up the A-10 in AA Bagcam-camera-tracking mode.

You think its a re-run of the earlier shots?

MSNBC cam had "engine-noises" going by a few minutes ago, the NTV shots might be live.

They say the Warthog is flying with impunity. It looks like he's dropping lots of flares. There must be heavy AAA. Those flares are to confuse heat seeking missiles.

NTV is playing tape. It may be semi-current, and may be from yesterday, but it's tape (you can see the edits).

It was showing a firefight in the Palace grounds, though, so I suspect that at least everything before the A-10 shot was from yesterday. If there were a firefight going on in the area we occupied yesterday, I think Fox would go to it live...

What's worrying me is that we had such great intelligence the first night of the war... We heard ambulances went in but didn't leave for anywhere in a hurry... We never had confirmation but it seemed so likely he was dead, especially when he was supposed to be on TV and Baghdad Bob showed up instead (maybe that was supposed to throw us off the track and make us *think* Saddam was dead?).

And I guess the gov't may have known for some time if Saddam was still alive from listening to this Jaguar system.

I'm just wondering how we know *this* was the hit if last time wasn't it! :)

That is the most unique and intimidating sound there is!! A plane that breathes metal. I have a friend who served in Gulf War I.... he told me that the plane the Iraqis most feared was the A-10. They called them the "flying crosses!"

Maybe the daily thread could be constructed so the post numbers you can navigate by (say I want to go to post 251-300) are closer to the top?

The "body" of a thread always pushes the "scroll" area down. This is only a problem when the "body" is shown - generally page 1 or when you post.

There should be a "click to scroll to commentary" link at the beginning of each page - clicking this should toake you immediately to the first post of the page - just above that will be the "scroll" area - hope this helps...

Here we are, sitting in OUR houses watching a camera on a hotel couple of ten thousand miles away with daylight and night visions relayed through satellites 22,000 miles up, back to the net, processed through the net immediately to houses - AND THEY STILL CAN"T PUT THE D*AMN THING ON A SIMPLE PAN TURRRET!

What good is a live war if the two countries can't seem to be to stage the action in front of the camera?

I don't think that it's a tape. Remember last night when they stormed the palace and everyone was saying it was a tape. 15-20 min. later it was on Fox that it was Lebanese TV live.
