Stephen Hunter won the criticism Pulitzer for his "authoritative film criticism that is both intellectually rewarding and a pleasure to read."
Hunter writes excellent film criticism for the Washington Post, and also writes adventure novels about Vietnam-era master sniper Bob Lee Swagger. As I'd be willing to bet there are some Hunter fans here, I thought you'd want to know.

Gigantic Bob Lee BUMP!
Thanks Arc, I'm a huge Hunter Fan. He was also interviewed in the latest American Handgunner magazine.

I'm one. Indeed, in the middle of The Second Saladin right now. Good on Mr. Hunter...

Bob the Nailer is way cool. I've read three. Glad to hear there are more. I'll check the library.
i suppose everyone knows that Bob the Nailer was based on a real Vietnam hero.

You're in for a treat!

Even though it doesn't have Bob or Earl in it, read "Dirty White Boys" too.

to new readers of hunter books try first "point of impact"
To: green team 1999; All
If anyone can read the first chapter of "Point of Impact" where Bob has been up all night "...earning Tim..." and NOT be helplessly, inextricably hooked...Wow, I don't know.
(not to mention rootin' at the end, for that poor SOB that couldn't spell in "the Day before Midnight". Man! Talk about suspense!)

Who says greatness isn't recognized?
I've read through the Bob Lee books (Point of Impact, Dirty White Boys, Black Light) twice; the Second Saladin, at least 3 times, the Spanish Gambit (renamed Tapestry of Spies) at least half a dozen times. And all his other books at least once.
Every time I'm in a book store, I go to fiction under "H."
Oh, and three years ago I met him in LA at a book-signing. He's an incredibly nice guy.

What a remarkable shot.
As I said on that thread, I'd imagine a lot of leadership has been misted in downtown Badhdad by 'ol Bob Lee's counterparts in the past few days.

Hard to pick a favorite scene, but..."Daddy's home." is
one great line in context and a dynamite underline to a
climax.

HUNTER ROCKS. It's hard to pick my favorite, but if I had to, I think it would be "Hot Springs". BTW, I just finished "Pale Horse Coming" and you were right. It was great. I read it in one sitting-didn't have a choice.

Yep. Well discussed, along with characteristics of the British AW L96A1 sniper's rifle in the FReepost and response thread *here*.
*Misting* Iraqi leadership is okay, it's *missing* them that seems somehow wasteful- and I doubt there's much of that going on.
Doping wind is a little easier with the MilDot reticle in the 6x or 10x scopes usually found on the L96A1s than with the old L42A1 they replaced, But there was a Royal Marine who managed an 1100-meter headshot during the Falklands episode that was also taken under windy conditions. Of course it's entirely possible that it's the same guy, just with a little better and newer rifle and some of that nice 175-grain National Match Long Range ammo they got from the Yanks....
