The "inside information" from Hunt about the Saddam strike is baffling. The CIA "burns" their mole on the decapitation strike, yet we don't conduct a secondary strike on the target to attack the "rescue" personnel as they pulled the people from the bunker, one of whom is supposedly a wounded Saddam? When a few more cruise missiles a couple of hours after the attack could have cinched it? Doesn't pass the smell test to me.

The assets were burned days later. They weren't at the bunker. Saddam or whoever was left killed a bunch of suspects, i.e. 100% of expendables in his eyes.

We held fire because if the first round of 28 devices didn't do the job, tough. Surprise was gone, too.

"Soviet Stratgy for Nuclear War" by Douglass and Hoeber said that they deliberately planned on avoiding taking out POTUS as they felt it was important to have him alive to surrender. In addition to satisfying their need to a "legal" end to hostilities, they felt that way the Amercian people would be more inclined to accept the "inevitable".
