AP reporting we've occupied the Al Rashid hotel! Remember? That's where Petah Ahnet broadcast from in GW I.

Wow, that was intense. Burning vehicle looked like a T-72 to me. Iraqis always park them in a berm and turn them into stationary pillboxes. Looks like the 25mm with DU on those Bradleys slit them up a treat.

I have a friend who stayed there once. Back in the 80s when Rumsfeld(spelling) went to Baghdad. It was a nice hotel.

21:53 PST BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- U.S. troops seized key buildings in the center of the Iraqi capital on Monday, including a major presidential palace and the Information Ministry.
Reporters saw the tanks roll into the heart of Baghdad on the western side of the Tigris River, which divides the city. Also occupied was the Al-Rashid Hotel.

The river scene was a tape. When it started, it backed up and started again. It looked like new tape, probably taken in the last couple of hours. It had one or two edits but was pretty rough.

I'm shocked and awed, does that count? Count me in!

Looking at my map it was taken from the roof of the hotel.
Notice how little is left of Saddam's main power structures by that bend in the river.

Phone ringing for Bagdad Bob. But he is a bit preoccupied now. I hope we keep him alive tonight, so he can explain to us tomorrow what this really means.
