My daughter is a first year High School teacher. She loves to teach and has been given the highest ratings possible by her Principal, peers and students. They all came to support her when the school board looked at cuts. Although she got her slip, she is now on first on the rehire list if the school can find the money.

Such a waste of a fine teacher. If these young dedicated teachers can't find jobs in their field, California will lose a great resource.

I have also heard a rumor that all schools under 600 in enrollment could be closed. That would take out most of our county's schools. Kids would have to be bused for hours if that is the case.

As an FYI, it is not only techers that are getting the ax.

I am a Telecom Professional with a large school district here in Nor Calif and our ranks are being cut drastically as well. I expect my layoff notice on May 1 along with 15% of the entire staff.

Just goes to show you what happens when you elect a complete Democrat slate in a state.

Cheers,

Could she leave California? Sounds like her talent is needed.

What burns me the most about school budgets is that the average ratio of teachers to administrators in the American public school system is 1 to 1. Seems like the bureaucracy budget is the one to cut.

(As a side note: Several years ago the National Science Foundation gave the D.C. public school system a major grant. Turns out they used the grant for limousine services for their administrators.)

I truly believe alot of this budget cutting is a scam. The demorats and the NEA screw the kids instead of their own, cry and moan look what is happening to our children, taxes get raised, and the wheel keeps turning. Makes me sick.

Good teachers are desparately needed. So sorry to hear of your daughter's layoff? The 25,000 layoffs should be administrative staff. I lived in Ventura until several years ago and my best friends were elementary, high school and community college teachers. The problem is more the administrative and support staff and their enormous salaries. This is were the cuts should begin. Also all huge amount of money going for non-English speaking students. For a fact, the teachers salaries and benefits were amazing to me. One friend, the part-time community college lab instructor/monitor made $40 an hour!
