Senator Kerry’s Permanent Patriotism.
The New Tech Diary ^

Democrat Senator John Kerry recently made a controversial statement about President Bush.

"What we need now is not just a regime change in Saddam Hussein and Iraq, but we need a regime change in the United States," Senator Kerry said.

When controversy erupted over the statement, the Senator refused to back down. "I don't need any lessons in patriotism or in caring for America" he said, justifying himself based upon his past war service.

What Senator Kerry fails to realize is that patriotism is linear, not cumulative. What matters most is Senator Kerry’s current support (or lack thereof), not his past patriotism.

Surely there are people out there who spat on Vietnam Vets but currently support the war in Iraq. They may have been unpatriotic in the past, but today they are patriots. To call them otherwise would be to ignore the obvious.

Serving in a past war doesn’t grant someone free pass to now act in an unpatriotic way. Past patriotism does not automatically mean that one is a permanent patriot. The Senator obviously thinks that he has permanent patriot status. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Thanks, I you are, of course, right about Saratoga. I couldn't think of that off the top of my (pointy) head. The story behind his treason is interesting IMO. He was a patriot, but from what I understand, lost heart due to the course the war was taking and thought a negotiated peace would have been preferrable to where he thought things were heading as it was.

Thank G-d he was wrong, but it is unfortunate, as I think we could use all the intellegent commanders we could handle at that point in the war.

G-d was on our side. Praise him always. The hope that came into the world when the U.S. was birthed is almost unimaginable. Having spent a great deal of time studying times that led to it, and the Great Men who were its intellectual forbears, I can't help but see the hand of our creator in feeding us just what we needed to be sure that the American Revolution would happen and be successful.

I've said this many times, but it bears repeating... A thousand years from now, students at University may very well not be terribly familiar with the United States as a country, but I'd be willing to bet serious change that they will know the Declaration of Independence, and the U.S. Constitution.

I believe both documents were divinely inspired, especially the former.
