Well into the war that was supposed to rid Iraq of its alleged stockpile of weapons of mass destruction, a senior British official admitted on Saturday that no chemical, biological or nuclear weapons of mass destruction may after all be found.
Making the startling confession in a radio interview, British Home Secretary, David Blunkett, added in the same breath that he would in any case rejoice the fall of Saddam Hussein and his regime regardless of whether any weapons of mass destruction were found in Iraq or not.
The British home secretarys confession reconfirms the worst fears of the opponents of the war that the bogey of weapons of mass destruction was only a ruse for the US and the British to go to war against Iraq.
The admission does certainly deal a serious blow to the moral legitimacy that the US and the British have been seeking in prosecuting the war.
Critics of the war across the world have been accusing the US and the British of aiming for regime change in Baghdad under the guise of unearthing and dismantling weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
There have been constant accusations that the US and the British are eyeing Iraqs huge oil wealth, promoting Israeli interests, and that its campaign against weapons of mass destruction is only a convenient cover-up.
In making the confession in an interview with BBC radio, the British Home Secretary however admitted that the non-discovery of any weapons of mass destruction would lead to a very interesting debate about the war.
We will obviously have a very interesting debate if there are no biological, chemical, radiological or nuclear weapons or facilities to produce them found anywhere in Iraq once Iraq is free, the home secretary added.
US-led forces moving across the Iraqi deserts have been under pressure since the start of the war to find evidence of Iraqs weapons of mass destruction. But instead of solid evidence, the US-led forces have so far only raised false alarms.
From time to time, the US-forces have claimed to have unearthed suspicious substances. And each time, the claim has turned out to be without substance.
Even today Saturday 5 April, US marines were reported to be digging up a suspected chemical weapons hiding place in the courtyard of a school in the southeast of Baghdad.

Since this is from the Al-Jazeera (all terrorist, all the time) news - no, propaganda agency, it should not be surprising that they don't mention ANYWHERE quotes from Donald Rumsfeld, Colin Powell, and about a dozen US generals saying that finding this stuff isn't the priority right now - first they want to win the war.

Many of these WMD were moved to Syria.
Israeli commandos will finish the job!

Except we've already found cyanide and mustard agents dumped into the Euphrates, and botulinim and ricin in the north.

What is ridiculous about all this speculation now that there are NO WMD.. is that Iraq is a BIG country.. we've only been there a short time and a LOT of territory hasn't even been explored.. What is up with these people? We are good but we're not perfect.. how on earth do they think we could possibly have inspected every square foot of Baghdad much less Iraq?

I wouldn't worry about Al-Jazeera at all. Once the shooting match is over (in a few days), we will find some more WMD or find out that they have been moved to Syria.

They are likely buried deep in bunkers to keep them from the UN inspectors....
.....But not well enough for our inspectors!

The greatest weapon of mass destruction known to man is ... the dictator.
Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Saddam ... etc..
Let's all hope that today closes the chapter on the dictator protection society known as the United Nations -- and dictatorships -- forever.

If the U.S. is so duplicitous, why haven't we planted some WMD? I guess when we do find it (perhaps in the school courtyard being dug up as we speak), they'll dimiss it as a plant.

The fact that Saddam is an evil SOB hellbent on killing as many Westerners was enough for me to support this action. I for one could care less wether weapons are found.

We've obviously planted all those thousands of chemical suits, gas masks, and antidotes found at different sites and the battlefield itself. Or were the Iraqis just using those items for Halloween?

Al Jazeera may as well call themselves Radio Un-Free Baghdad. Blunkett was merely saying that even if there were no WMD's in Iraq, people should rejoice that Iraq's regime is gone. He did say that there aren't any in Iraq.
What a bunch of bastards Al Jazeera are.

The weapons are there, alright. And so are the labs to develop and test them. True, the mobile stuff has been moved to Syria and we'll be able to prove it as we capture more of the people involved.
But, I've got a long shot bet. The labs are in tunnels, deep underground. The nuclear labs are in tunnels in the western dessert. The tunnels are why the French were against us. They didn't want us to find the tunnels, or, rather, how the tunnels were built. The same machines that dug the Chunnel, the tunnel under the English Channel, were used to dig Saddam's tunnels.
Maybe, the same machines were dismantled and sold to Iraq, or the same French companies sold similar machines to Saddam over the years. Or, both.
When we discover these tunnels, we'll find Saddam's WMD and the proof of French perfidy.

Finding WMD's in iraq, I suspect much like trying to locate a needle in a haystack. I do believe the way their discovery will come about is by Iraqi military ratting out the locations, or even civilians in the know.

Britain admits there may be no WMD's in Iraq
From the front page of today's Los Angeles Times (my paraphrase):
Over three-quarters of people polled now support the war.
Of those supporters of the war, four-fifths don't care if WMDs are found in Iraq.
Let's see...that means something like .75 X .80 = .60...
...that means, if the poll is statistically valid...something like
SIXTY PERCENT of Americans don't care if we find WMDs in Iraq.
(These "SIXTY PERCENTERS" are the folks who "get it" as regards pukes like Saddam and Co.)
