Jessica took awful beating

Pfc. Jessica Lynch was beaten more severely than first reports indicated, doctors said yesterday.

Besides two broken legs and a broken arm, the 19-year-old Army truck driver suffered fractures to her right foot, right ankle and a disk in her spine, and had a gash on her head.

Lynch underwent spinal surgery Thursday to repair the fractured disk that had been pressing painfully on a nerve, doctors at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany reported yesterday.

"The prognosis for her recovery is excellent," said Col. David Rubenstein, the medical center commander.

Officials have refused to say why so many of Lynch's bones were broken, but it's likely she was tortured. An Iraqi man who told the Americans where to find her urged the troops to hurry, saying she was being tortured. He later described a scene where the helpless woman was being slapped by a black-clad member of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's thuggish Fedayeen.

Despite her ordeal, Lynch was in good spirits, asking for turkey, a pair of glasses and a newspaper from her hometown of Palestine, W.Va.

"Her emotional state is extremely good - she's jovial, she's talking with staff," Rubenstein said. He said she was particularly cheered by the pink casts she requested.

She will need "extensive rehabilitative services," he continued, but was expected to recover completely.

She's "a daughter any parent would be proud of," he added.

A friend from her unit is with her and has spoken by telephone with her family, Rubenstein said.

The military also accommodated a request from Lynch, who was being fed intravenously, for solid foods. From her list of favorites, cooks in the hospital kitchen delivered an order of turkey, apple sauce and steamed carrots.

The private has no television in her hospital room, on Rubenstein's orders. And Lynch's father back in the U.S. confirmed that doctors have asked him not to discuss her ordeal with her.

"We will answer her questions when she asks them," Rubenstein said.

Nine of 11 bodies discovered in the raid that freed Lynch are believed to be those of American soldiers. Those bodies were transported yesterday to Dover, Del.

You think it was a more like a car wreck or a tank smashing that caused her injuries?

I think you have little appreciation for the inhumaine brutality of Saddam's henchmen.

Her broken legs could have been administered simply to prevent her from attempting escape - or in retribution for her excellent marksmanship.

That was a bit harsh, sorry about that, just tired of people thinking the US went above and beyond to rescue somebody because they were a female, when it's clear that gender has nothing to do with it. We do try and leave no one behind.

Dang it, I had a feeling I should know better than to trust Quentin Tarantino... My apologies to all... I am not someone who is a stranger to the bible and I should have checked it out.

I haven't the time to read all the replies on this thread, so I may be repeating what has already been discussed.

The information on Pfc Lynch and her captivity is still being guarded.
She is a member of the military and a citizen of the US.
She has certain rights that go with both categories.

The rest of her fellow soldiers were killed, and she was kept alive, and taken to a party leader's house/complex, where she was tortured in ways that we should remember to have the respect not to allow the media to feast on.

That these 'party leaders' would be part to such a violation of a soldier demonstrates where their priorities are. Having a little 'party' with an AMERICAN SOLDIER while the country is being surrounded is similiar to CLINTON getting a BJ while on the phone with another head of state.
No morality, no conscience, only interested in demonstrating POWER over another, in especially sadistic and twisted ways.

These are the thugs that Saddam uses to help his REP.GUARD control the vast areas of IRAQ. The GUARD is there to protect Saddam/his sons/his top staff/his property.

We are not fighting these people (the thugs) over land/principles. We are fighting them because they know only killing/torture as a means of power. They don't want any other way. And they want us out of the way so they can continue to rape the citizens of IRAQ.

Your post has a certain accusatory tone which I find offensive.

I am willing to wait until Pfc Lynch speaks to tell us how she sustained her injuries. You might do well to do likewise. I find it passing strange that if she sustained her injuries through torture that her torturers would have put her in the hospital and allowed her to have medical treatment. But I could be wrong, and so could you.

My theory, if you could call it that, or maybe just my hope, is that her grievous injuries just may have saved her life because she was then put in custody of hospital workers early on, as opposed to being placed with military personnel who proceeded to torture and perhaps execute her fellow soldiers.

I admit to being hopeful that she was not tortured because that would be better for her. You seem to be anxious for her to have been tortured because ???????
