No one is denying the idiot his first amendment rights. He has the right spout any political opinion he wants, regardless of how insane. But Columbia alums can withhold their donations if they think the University isn't taking the appropriate action (firing the SOB). This, and the pressure brought to bear by us regular folks who want to see his traitorous ass ousted, is entirely appropriate. No one is suggesting that any government action be taken. I think you completely misunderstand the concept of first amendment rights.

I agree that the alums can do such. After all, that is freedom of expression as well.
And Jeff, or you, or I, or anyone else can call for the guy's resignation or firing.
But Columbia has no reason to follow up on any of it. In fact, I suspect they would run afoul of collective bargaining agreements and specific academic hiring policies if they do.
I would be far more incensed if this guy were using his classroom to agitate for his stupid views, or even discriminating against the (apparently only two) students in his classes that are pro-war, but he apparently has not done that.
So he is speaking as a private citizen, and he has a right to express his views no matter how nauseating.
