From another thread about pay rates.
Australian troops in designated war zones get their normal pay (a Private earns between $36 607 and $46 210 depending on specialisation. Regular infantry earn $39 808), PLUS combat pay of $200 per DAY, PLUS seperation and field allowance of $50 per DAY, PLUS (for the SAS troops) $155 per DAY special forces pay.
And it's all TAX FREE while in the War Zone.
The LOWEST paid Aussie is getting between $359 and $514 per DAY TAX FREE.
I really envy FReeper Dundee right about now.

I wish our troops were paid better. We have SO MANY reservists. They should not face bankruptcy for saving the country.

My dad worked for DYNCORP during GWI and he was over in Saudi during the first gulf war. Dyncorp's contract with the military has a clause that if the contractors are positioned in combat zones, their pay goes up like the enlisted military pay goes up for combat. My father got combat pay rates and it was tax free.
