Interesting...so the rhetoric about an armed populace being a free populace, or the dictum that dictators ban guns after they take over a people doesn't quite match!

From what I've read/heard, only Baath part members, or Saddam Loyalists are allowed to own weapons and ammo...

Not everyone can own a gun there, much less ever go practice with one - you have to be a Baathist party member and so on. And anything you buy is duly noted by a government with a passion for documentation. So to say that the average Iraqi can own a gun is really jost media BS.
