Because 20% of the Palestinians (and about 2% of the Israelies) will never be happy unless they are shooting at, bombing, or otherwise pissing on each other. Yes, if you could "magically" remove those individuals the rest of them could get along. And if Men were Angels then Communism would actually work. But since that ain't gonna happen, in reality neither will your concept.

IMO, this isn't catering to the UN or EU: it's catering to UK domestic opinion in the face of a severe split within his party. If Blair can establish himself as being someone who can maintain strong ties with America without appearing to his country like Bush is tugging his strings, those people in the Labor Party who revolted will have a harder time throwing Blair out of the PM office this coming October.

Besides, this roadmap ain't going to work anyway, and I think Blair knows it. The Israeli-Palestinian stuf is used for cheap political pops almost everywhere else, and Blair is still a liberal.

You mean like some folks on here are going to get a dose of reality about the real Mr. Blair who just happened to be backed in a corner and ended up having to support the war.

The same Mr. Blair that doesn't seem to like Israel very well.

The same Mr. Blair that mostly likely thought President Bush was another Clinton type President -- fire off a few Cruise and Tomahawk missiles but not actually launch an attack. You know -- saber rattle but don't do anything else.

The same Mr. Blair that waffled big time when the 2nd resolution was doomed from the start and he kept trying to add words, take away words, and finally came up with the stupid benchmarks that read like Bill Clinton had written them.

Same Mr. Blair that got President Bush to announce the Middle East plan. It was not the time to be bringing it up -- right before we launched and when we had all the trouble at the UN. It sure wasn't fair to Israel. I could care less about the Palestinians!

With regards to the comments made here i feel..dissapointment. Facing down objections in his own party, sending our youngest and brightest off to fight besides you, including MY family. And suddenly because of this speech we are weasels?.I cant express how hurtfull i find that

What the heck are you talking about? I comment on how pro-"Palestinian" the British Parliament is when I watch their broadcasts on C-SPAN and you are mad at me? This is a fact. Most of your politicians are slanted toward Arabs and against Israel. Deal with it.

And how dare you lecture me about sending best and brightest to Iraq...my brother is over there, dimwit! Sensistive limeys. Sheesh.

I don't want to get in a pissing match with you over percentages, but this whole thing was started and is perpetuated by the league of Arab states. The vast majority (roughly 100%) of Arab citizens see Israel as the aggressor and will not be truly happy until the last Israeli is pushed into the Mediterranean.

Unlike the PLO, Israel's national charter has never contained language which sought to dispossess any group of its rightful inheritance, but rather is content with the land it currently possesses (An area approximately the size of New Jersey). Israel is willing to live at peace with its neighbors, but Arab jealousy and hatred over a lost birthright is what fuels the Islamic tantrums seen thoughout the world today.

A peace, of sorts, may someday be realized and may even be hailed as historic and lasting, but it cannot be long sustained. The Arab will not be satisified. If you don't agree, think back to what Arafat refused to sign at Camp David. Really examine what he refused. If Arafat had accepted that remarkable agreement, he knew that the world would expect him to produce something other than terrorism. And he also knew that no one was capable of organizing the rabble he had nurtured to do anything but hate Jews and act as strolling kamikazes. Arabs have no interest or skill in positive nation building, for proof just look at the current list of nations under Arab/Islamic control. Nothing short of Israel's total destruction is acceptable to the Arab.

Getting rid of Saddam is the first step towards resolving the Israeli/Palestinian situation.

It was impossible to even begin working towards a resolution while Saddam was openly funding the terrorists.

I never said Brits were weasels. Far from it. But the Parliament is anything but "pro-Israel". They love the Arabs.

I tend to agree in general, but -- I don't agree with categorizing everyone over there as "the Arab" and treating them monolithically. The problem is that "the Arab" is a conception and not something that actually exists.

Wasn't George W Bush the first American President to call for palestinian statehood?
