...despite any hatred Najaf's people may harbour for Saddam, they seem resolutely opposed to having "infidel" soldiers violating the holy ground. Try going to a Mormon Temple and asking to set foot inside the Temple.
Try going to a Catholic Church, telling the priest you are not Catholic and asking his permission to partake in Catholic Communion.

The problem is that the WTC and the Pentagon are now 'holy ground' for these lunatics too. It's called jihad, and our soldiers could get killed now, or later, or both, but one thing is sure: jihad has been ongoing for 1300 years and will not stop until what we call the West submits to their god. It sickens me to see our troops bow to this false god, if that is truly what has happened here; if not then it is a neutral event, not disgraceful but certainly not heroic, imo.

There were people firing at soldiers from the mosques, weren't there? This is a war - no one was asking to defile a temple or take communion. Totally a non answer.

So do armies - and I wonder if the Arab TV will make more of the 'submission' of the American military than they would if some had been killed. I am glad no one was killed, but you see, I believe, there is no winning the hearts and minds of these people as a whole and I don't think we have time to do it one at a time. WE have many who have lived in this country for years and still want to do us harm. WE had several who lived, trained and enjoyed the freedoms of this country and they flew aiplanes into buildings and killed 3,000 and intended to kill more. So much for learning to love us.
