GOP Leaders Press Ehrlich To Veto Medical Marijuana

The Bush administration and other top national Republicans are heavily pressuring Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. to veto a proposal that would drastically reduce penalties for terminally ill patients who smoke marijuana to ease pain.

In recent days, several Republican officials have urged Ehrlich to reconsider his longtime support of medical marijuana, which has become one of the few issues that divide the state GOP.

It's all sodomy to him.

Does he think straight sodomy should be illegal? (And who is this pillar of rectitude?)

That's just what you need, a heavily armed Bible-thumping cop who's never had a hummer.

Could be worse---he could also have hemorrhoids.

"On the cannabis issue, the GOP has been hijacked by extremists---much like the Dems have been hijacked by extremists on many issues. Political success does not lie that way."

Amen. Extremism sucks.

I am actually for medical marijuana. It's just the smoke screen(no pun intended) the pro-legalizers use that grates on me. And this bill is not really a "victory", it still carries a criminal penalty.

This Baltimore Sun story is nothing more than bait by a liberal writer trying to split the party, IMHO, so the Libertarians can wail what a great victory this is.

Huh, nothing about medical marijuana being rejected in NM and MT, and the beating the three major pro-pot and drug intiatives took last November.

Expanding on my remarks in reply #27, IMO, the pro- pot legalizers use medical patients as their human shields.

Seriously, the whole thing seems kind of silly. This new law doesn't even legalize medical marijuana, it only reduces the penalty for medical possession to a $100 fine. The same law applies in my State for recreational possession. Its one of the things I like about living here.

I predict that in a few years, if the Pubbies don't wise up about this crap and drop the drug warrior extremism, that they're going to start losing a lot of elections that they're supposed to win.

Memo to the Republican Party -- Harry Anslinger is DEAD and has been for a long time. Marijuana really doesn't make white women have sex with black jazz musicians, nor is it the root cause of teenage pregnancy (re: the recent moronic ONDCP PSA).

Using someone as a human shield puts them at risk; how do pro-pot legalizers put medical patients at risk?

Uh a leader or lobbying group using a human shield is hiding behind sick or innocent people, to further their own cause.

In this case it is the pro-pot legalizers hiding behind sick people to further their own cause.

Let me expand that,

In this case it is the pro-pot and drug culture legalizers hiding behind sick people to further their own cause.

And here in California, to the extent that there were any actual instances of real patients in actual need of "medical marijuana", their interests were harmed by Peron, Kubby, Rosenthal and other pot-promoters misusing the initiative as a cover for criminal activities.
