GOP Leaders Press Ehrlich To Veto Medical Marijuana

The Bush administration and other top national Republicans are heavily pressuring Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. to veto a proposal that would drastically reduce penalties for terminally ill patients who smoke marijuana to ease pain.

In recent days, several Republican officials have urged Ehrlich to reconsider his longtime support of medical marijuana, which has become one of the few issues that divide the state GOP.

The AMA is also one of the biggest gun-grabbing groups in the country.

And guns aren't drugs. It demeans the RKBA to equate the two.

Ok, fine. So next time cinFLA show up in one of these threads and starts going on about how George Soros supports legalization as well as total gun control and UN control of the world, I can count on you to stick up for us?

Sounds like The Bush administration and other top national Republicans have no respect for the rights of the States or the rights of the individual.

rights of the States

The veto wouldn't be made pursuant to state law?

modern day opium dens opening up all across America

Today you get desperate addicts huffing solvents. There is no indication that controling the subset of intoxicants that can be somewhat controlled does any good. It wasn't worse before the Drug War, and it didn't get better during the Drug War. Plus, the Drug War costs so much that it would cost less to have a few more addicts, even if addiction did rise.

The legitimate uses of Oxycontin are curtailed because doctors don't want to get investigated. That is a hard price to pay for a Drug War that is failing to stop abuse.

Addicts willing to use dangerous drugs are unlikely to be deterred by laws. Likewise, law-abiding people are very unlikely to try dangerous drugs. How does a Drug War play a positive role? It just empties the pockets of the law abiding to jail the suppliers of an inflexible, addicted demand. Not suprising it doesn't work.

I understand that's your opinion on this and respect it. But will you criticize cinFLA for equating drugs and guns when he does?

I like liberdopian better. It has that literate sense to it, like you get off on sniffing freshly bound books, as opposed to the JBTs with the 18" necks that can only (barely) read DARE pamphlets.

Remember Lyn Nofziger? He was a bigwig in the Reagan administration. Toed the Party Line when it came to medical marijuana. Then his daughter got cancer. Went skulking around on the streets to buy weed to help with her chemo, and then became a proponent for medical marijuana. I would have had more respect for him if he had stuck to his principles and told his daughter to suck it up, like he did for everybody else when he was with Reagan.

Such a dissembling issue among self-avowed libertarian ideologues.
I've considered the obvious angst amongst all of you towards L/libertarians and I've come to some conclusions...and I'll share just one of 'em...
YA'LL ARE SCARED SH|TLE$$!
It would seem that the promulgation of ideas "outside" of the official GOP box is gaining ground and ya'll are nothing more than party hacks who see their "ideals" being laughed at and you're going to lose ground and you can't stand the thought of any libertarian ideas even entering your cosseted ivory towers.
The RLC must be an abomination in ya'lls eyes.
The times, they are a-changing and it is killing the lot of you.

The fine for simple marijuana possession or use in California is a third of what it is for driving alone in the diamond lane during commute hours.
Defacto legalization, despite your denials to the contrary.
Got to keep that money rolling in.
And such "deadly things" both of those "violations" are...
Asinine!

Yes, but I didn't vote for the proposition in California because anyone who needs it can get it without any problems as it is.
But, but...isn't that fine you mentioned "a problem"?
Isn't that threat of financial punishment "a problem" and coercion.

The needle is one reason most people will stay away from heroin.
Your hypocrisy is showing...isn't it your contention that there is a growing drug problem in America?
Yet here you are explaining just one reason why most folks stay away from heroin.
And don't you also contend that if all drugs are legalized it'll cause an increase in usage of drugs?
Will everybody just forget one of the reasons why they stayed away from heroin to begin with?

If any drugs should be proscribed and forbidden, it's not the organics, but the bath-tub crank and other chemicals.
I've always believed that anything "processed" is basically bad. Organics just grow as they were intended to do. The coca leaf by itself isn't such a bad thing, but process it into cocaine and you've got a whole new ball game.
Barley, malt, hops, various grains...process them and...well, you get the picture.
Now grapes, on the other hand, well, you get the picture. Everything you need all in one tiny package, even the yeast in the skin for fermentation.

So true. It keeps many single drivers away from the commuter lanes, and keeps their baggies away from open view, too. Such personal sacrifices people endure for the common good!

Have you ever spent as much as eight hours in a ward for CA patients? Have you ever HAD cancer?

For if you have and can deny these souls ANYTHING that will alleviate their pain; then, the issues being dealt with here are not about marijuana, my friend.
