She should have lied and said the itinerary had a notation indicating drugs would be smuggled on the flight. That's the only thing that will get attention.

That's why I have stored drinking water, food, cloths, meds, guns and ammo. Trouble is, that's the kind of stuff da gummint comes and gets you for. These bureaucratic bumblers let reasonable suspects (Middle Eastern-looking men who fit the profile and commit felonies like credit card fraud) move about unimpeded in the least, while strip-seaching grandmas and kids, and going after law-abiding citizens who exercise their rights under the Constitution (i.e., Amendment 2). Its easier, you see, to do that, than go after people who might really be dangerous. The easy way is always preferred by bureaucrats and simple servants, especially those who keep "banker's hours".

"Is this what homeland security is reduced to?"
No it's what it was designed to do. It's another huge bureaucracy that's supposed to be the answer for a percieved problem but is really designed to take the heat off the government for previous incompetence. Bureaucracy is inefficient by nature but thats the big secret.

Why not just show up at the airport after Nasir gets thorough the metal detectors and make a citizens arrest?

Big mistake, should have told the Feeble Bureau of Insolence that you suspected the guy was that redneck Rudolph. They would have mustered the troops. Eric Rudolph bump!

Sadly, none of the reported incompetence of the various federal and state agencies surprises me. In my line of work, I've had dealings with the FBI, GAO, Inspector General, and other agencies' LE divisions. The general indifference (and sometimes outright apathy) is maddening.
If there's anything I've learned from all my encounters with those agencies, it's this: unless the victim is politically well-connected, the general response is, "Don't call us, we'll call you."
It's time that people got over the illusion that any of these agencies are proactive when it comes to crime. All of them are largely -- in every sense of the word -- "tombstone agencies." They won't fly into action until there are enough dead people that not doing something would cause an public uproar.
And people wonder why I have such a vested interest in arming me and mine...

I keep telling people that we are NO SAFER today than we were on 911. Our borders are sieves and the govt. DOES NOTHING about it. The govt. is out to protect the govt. not citizens!
A BIG HIT will happen here - either a nuke or a biochem attack - the govt. has already said it would! The fed's biggest constitutional repsonsiblity - PROTECTING AMERICANS - has been ignored and/or completely botched. But wait till the big one hits - you can be sure the govt. officials will be protected and taken to bunkers or whatever. Wherer are the bunkers for citizens? hmmm? There are none! So much for "homeland defense"!
Homeland Defense is really Homeland Offense. Our govt. doesn't know the meaning of DEFENSES. It's a travesty. But when the next BIG attack happens, one that will make 911 look like a day in the park, Americans will hopefull wake the flip up and put the worthless govt. on notice - either protect us or get out of office now!

Forget nail clippers.
Not really an effective weapon anyway.
For self defence, carry a Zebra M-402 mechanical pencil.
It is mostly metal, and has a stencil barrel on the tip.
Useful for poking eyes and such.
If you ever need to subdue a terror-boy, use the mech pencil and a seat cushion or blanket, even a pillow. If he's got a knife of some sort, use the cushion(or similar object) as a shield, and go for the eyes with the mech pencil, icepick style. Kinda hard to fight when your eye is on a spit.
Then group around and kick the snot out of him.
If the metal mech pencil is too much trouble, Jedo has a nice plastic one that's light (comparatively) and strong.
Though it will shatter easily if you strike bone in the bad guy's face with it.
Trust me, pencils and pens are better hidden weapons than a pair of nail clippers.
