When Did Chinese Genetic Experimentation and Bio-Weapon SARS Rumors Begin -- What was the Source?

The original source is to difficult say because those rumors have been floating around the Internet since sometime early in March. We first found evidence supporting the Chinese experimentation reports when we visited Jeff Rense.com on or about March 18th. Rense had a report by Patricia Doyle, Ph.D. on his web site attributing the outbreak to Chinese experimental work with the Spanish Flu. (March 18, 2003).

Here is an excerpt from that report:

My best guess is that it is either a new version of the Spanish flu or the actual Spanish Flu. It is quite possible that China had an expedition to exhume tissue samples containing live H1N1 flu virus. The US and UK expedition was quite publicized and it is not unreasonable to think that China might have opted to get some samples as well. "Somehow, the flu got loose again."

I was totally against "digging up" Spanish flu samples. It was too risky and the chance of it emerging (NATURALLY) were slim. Of course, once the virus was resurrected, the chance of lab accidental release or intentional was then a factor. The risk far outweighed the benefit.

Later that day NewsPundit posted a report intended to quiet the rumors:

"There are rumors spreading on the Internet about biological warfare. We need to silence those rumors. There is no reason to fear this new virus might be a bioweapon or caused by the accidental release of a man made virus." (March 18, 2003).

A new report about Chinese experimentation with genetic combinations of coronavirus and paramyxovirus with a mycoplasma appeared on the Rense.com on March 27th.

Whatever the cause of the SARS crisis is it appears that health authorities have moved quickly to isolate infected persons by quarantine. It is far too early to tell if the SARS virus really under control. NewsPundit will continue to follow the SARS virus and to post breaking news reports.

Other Sources and Reports about SARS:

ClickitNews.com has an emerging diseases message board with reports on the fatal Asian flu going back to early March.

Coast-to-Coast has interviewed guests on the topic of SARS. One recent guest was Steve Qualea bioterrorism and preparedness expert. On Thursday evening, April 3rd he reportedly said about SARS:

"I believe it is a genetically altered bioweapon in the making," that got released by accident, Quayle said of the virus behind SARS. He also drew parallels between the current epidemic and the 1918 outbreak of the Spanish Flu which occurred during WWI"

SteveQuale.com posts his opinions and SARS reports.

How can you cite a source and spell his name three different ways in the citation?

This strikes me as irresponsible rumor-mongering.

the difference is that the mortality of SARS is only about 3 percent.

It is a lousy bioweapon.

If you want a real bioweapon, look to the black plague, not the spanish flu. And there are still questions if we know much about the Spanish flu. I mean, they are digging up graves and getting stored specimen from medical museums to try to identify the DNA sequence, but the entire sequence is not yet available...

But if you want to bioenginner a major bioweapon, you don't need to do such hard work.

Anthrax is found in nearly every barnyard. Tularemia is endeomic in many areas. And then we see the plague, Hanta viruses, atypical measles, superstrep, etc etc.

Post you comments a couple more times. Seems like you really want to get your point across. Please complain the moderator if you disagree with the editorial.

Guess you did not read or see or understand this part:

"There are rumors spreading on the Internet about biological warfare. We need to silence those rumors. There is no reason to fear this new virus might be a bioweapon or caused by the accidental release of a man made virus." (March 18, 2003).

Look like it might be a disclaimer.

Looks like maybe the rumors about Chinese bioweapons will start all over again because 'Coast to Coast' has about 20 million listeners.

Blame me for messing the post and screwing up the Quayle's name .... My bad

Reportedly the Spanish flu had a death rate of about 2.5% which was pretty low too. It still killed about 20 million people. This new SARS virus hits people over 40 pretty hard ... It appears to infect doctors and hospital staff very rapidly. How will people get adequate treatment when the authorities keep locking hospital doors?

Thank you. A weapon that kills only three percent of its victims, and against which you have no defense, makes no sense. And the history of this kind of virus provides no hope that it could be controlled by its originator. So why the paranoid delusions about it being a weapon, when much better candidates are available?

I do not believe it is a bio-weapon. I do not have an opinion about SARS one way or the other. Frankly, I do not think it is 'Spanish Flu' reborn either.

But people are posting on Internet sites like Rense.com that it definitely is a mad Chinese experiment that got out of the lab. Rense.com has about 5 million visitors a month.

Coast to Coast AM (CCAM) is heard by about 15 - 20 million people a night. So now there are about 20 million people who will might get on their computers and send emails to people saying SARS is a 'Bio-weapon.'

Both Rense.com and CCAM are selling products and services to people on their web sites. Both Rense and CCAM are broadcasting live on the Internet and on the radio every night.

I guess I could just walk outside. New Mexico: Home of the Flea, Land of the Plague. We also have Hantavirus (the Four Corners variety). No Machupo or Ebola. Of course, the juniper is in heat right now.

"A weapon that kills only three percent of its victims, and against which you have no defense, makes no sense."

Unless you are under the hood, tinkering, trying to increase its lethality...and it gets loose prematurely.

Thanks for your reply

I'm not a thread cop. If I have a problem with you, I'll post to you

If you want to see self-appointed nanny-police look like, go to one of Mr LeRoy's threads or ping Illbay

I think things like this stand or fall on the source and the information they contain. I was making a comment which I hoped you or others would agree with or refute.

This SARS thing has the potential to be very dangerous in a number of ways (panics of economic, medical and political varieties) and I would hope the better angels of FR would bring to bear our best minds to analyze and evaluate credible sources of information, and loudly slap down rumor-mongering.

If you want to see credible threads on this subject, look up stuff posted by BonesMccoy or MotherAbigail

As for double posting, talk to the landlord, I posted one reply

Maybe you should try taking a typing class

Yes, but consider how silly the theory sounds that the CIA invented AIDS to kill off black people. New diseases happen. we have a hundred years' experience with the flu and even more with colds and pneumonia.

China's Centre for Disease Control has said it suspects a chlamydia-like agent caused an outbreak of a flu-like virus that has killed 82 people and infected over 2,400 worldwide.

"We're 80 per cent sure," Hong Tao, a researcher with the Institute of Virology under the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, told a news conference.
