Britain says over 9,000 Iraqis now POWs
LONDON, April 3 (Reuters) - More than 9,000 Iraqis have been taken prisoner of war by U.S.-British troops, British Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon said on Thursday. Hoon told parliament that British forces now held key suburbs of Iraq's second city, Basra, and would foray further into the city when they judged the time to be right.
He said UK servicemen were focused on winning the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people as much as military action. "That is why it is so important that in a number of areas where UK forces are operating there is a growing sense of return to normal life," he added.

I can't help but think, "great...9000 potential terrorists and criminals set free at the end of the war"...What do you suppose will happen to these POWs?

That's right, the real rub will be sorting apart the good guys and the bad guys among the POWs. We'll obviously want to set free the innocent conscripts and--hopefully--execute the RG thugs and Fedayeen--but who can tell us which POW is which category?

The way these guys seem to talk when caught I think the prisoners will tell us who is who.
