Actually I think the rule of thumb is that 1 injured soldier effectively lowers the fighting capacity of the enemy by 3-7 soldier equivalents.

Not only are men required top carry away wounded, and then treat and transport them, but the sound of screaming and dying men saps the resolve and the will to fight of their colleagues.

Probably true for the Iraqis, but as for the Americans, I'm sure it increases their will to fight.
