I share your incredulity.

All systems, even the UK victim disarmament regime, invariably travel to an overcorrection before swinging back through equilibrium. If the British survive as a nation, it will be due to the awakening of the massive middle from their socialist slumber and a concomitant resurgence of common sense. It could be messy as the common folk reassert rights to self-defense. Unfortunately, they will be poorly armed at the outset. (Lesson: Never, never register or surrender your guns).

This really doesnt have anything to do with guns, if the guard had killed the robber with a ball bat he still would be sent to prison. Simply in England you do not have the right to defend your life, that is the law there.
