Get her back home as soon as possible! There's something about this place - being nestled in the hills with a feeling that you are a thousand miles away from everything - that will cure a body right down to the marrow. Get her back here where a timid Lady Spring is emerging cautiously, and the birds that worship her fill the trees with their chattering praise. Get her back to these sleepy hills where the smell of wild rose and honeysuckle piggybacks on a warm, morning breeze as it squeezes past a shaft of pale sunlight through an open bedroom window. Get her back here where "home" means a little more because those woods on the hillside behind your house never change and are always there to help you remember when finding a turtle or swinging from a grape vine was the most important event in your life.
(Now if we could just get these people to vote REPUBLICAN, it truly would be paradise!)
Levity aside, I have as strong feelings as anyone about women in the military, but this girl has made me forget that for at least a day or two. I am damn proud to call her a fellow West Virginian and an American hero. They said her number one request in captivity was to go home. Let God be praised for allowing her to do so.
