Gutsy little lady! Wonder if she'd be interested in a slightly sedentary older man with bad knees and a great wit ...

Kind of ironic, really. I was just on a thread where a very articulate Iranian lady who was a feminist during her 20 years in the States laments the loss of her freedom and longs for the good guys to ride in and give it back to her. I observed sadly that she would have to be willing to die for it and see her children die for it.

Then I read this.

Speechless.

Were I prez., I would see to it that she (a) got better; (b) stayed in a stateside Army base for the remainder of the war; (c) got reassigned to intelligence and training; (d)got to see her family as often as she wanted; and (e) gave her personally whatever appropriate awards she has coming. Regarding intelligence and training, it seems to me that relatively few people have the firsthand experience that she now does, so I don't at all consider such an assignment for her as sidelining.

I do hope she and her family remains safe for the remainder of the war and beyond.

And I also hope that her comrades are also remembered appropriately (the remainder in captivity, rescued also).

I speculate that she might get a sweet movie deal from this. And it also might give her a chance to reassess her career goals (but only if she is already so inclined).

Finally as prez. I would phase out the notion of women in the front line, and do it quickly. We are putting women in the harm's way in the worst possible manner. My gosh, what would they do under similar circumstances with that last bullet is beyond what I would want to contemplate...

I'll see your Bronze Star and raise it to a Silver Star. She'll also get the Purple Heart, POW Medal, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (unless something more specific is authorized, which I'm sure will happen, we had three created for DS1) That combined with the National Defense Service Meadal and Army Service Ribbon results in this:

Not a bad rack for a PFC.

I am absolutely against women anywhere near combat.

This woman had no business in Iraq, this is all just another horrible part of the legacy of Bill Clinton.

I have no doubt this woman was raped repeatedly, tortured and they were keeping her alive for their further pleasure. The fact that they didn't even put her on TV with the others showed that they had some very sinister motives.

So, good, I'm glad she fought back. But she's no heroine to me. She's a little girl that shouldn't have been there.

Having just watched "Courage Under Fire" the other night my first feeling is pride, but also curiosity as to what the real facts here were. There are many varied accounts. The only main accounts we have are hers and that of an Iraqi "Pharmacist" who "cared for her", at Hussein Hospital. If she is indeed up for a medal, it is likely the army will want to skip the details, as they did in the film I mentioned.

She's the kind of person our young kids should hold up as icons...not the Eminems of the world sitting back here being pansies.

She was fighting to the death," the official said. "She did not want to be taken alive."

Several officials cautioned that the precise sequence of events is still being determined, and that further information will emerge as Lynch is debriefed

I have no reason to doubt that this happened exactly as it was described...my only concern is that...as they say..."First reports are always wrong."

I would love nothing more than to have this confirmed- " OUR GIRLS CAN KICK YOUR ASS"

Beyond that, what a neat thing for any daughter I ever have to hear about, and use as an exemplar- "Honey, don't be frightened of boys- if they act inappropriately, shoot them."

My concern is that early reports may turn out to be inaccurate, and then be used to unfairly sully those involved.

God bless her, and the folks that got her out, and her family, and the United States of America.
