Pfc. Jessica Lynch, rescued Tuesday from an Iraqi hospital, fought fiercely and shot several enemy soldiers after Iraqi forces ambushed the Army's 507th Ordnance Maintenance Company, firing her weapon until she ran out of ammunition, U.S. officials said yesterday.

That's a big stretch for you, huh?
I don't want the government putting a rifle in a 19-year-old girl's hands and telling her to splatter another teenager's head open before he can do it to her.
But if that same girl is walking home from class after dark and some thug jumps her and pulls her into the bushes, I wouldn't care if she pulled out a pistol and shot him.
If you think that's contradictory, you are myopic.

Wow, you are really on a role, now she is a helpless victim. I wonder if the Iraqis she shot thought she was helpless. What about the F-18 shot down today, was the pilot a helpless victim also? Or the men on the Blackhawk? Are you just completely incapable of understanding the fact that a girl could actually fight back? You really are one of the most pathetic people I have seen on this or any forum.

I was banned when I called Turkey out for what they really are/have become. That was before they managed to prolong the war and casualties.
Since I know you care, go figure it out.
And above all else, continue to side with the uncivilized masses that wish to tear our society apart and down more and more each day...

Good one.
Now, you are my hero, too. In case anyone just woke up to the 21st century....women are not helpless victims, "scarlett"

Lots of people have called Turkey out. As I recall now you called a_Turk some particularly vile racist things with profanity.
See, seeker, you're not alone. The man has a mouth.
Me, too. But I try to keep it clean.

There's a world of difference between "girls fighting back" and the government paying teenaged girls to kill.
I would bet most of the posters on this thread cheering Jessica's "right" to be on the front line of battle are generally women under the age of 25.
You've been brain-washed. Good luck undoing the damage public schools and Hillary Clinton have done to you.

It's okay, it's just the war and all, making us woman'folk have the vapors. We'll get over it. Now, I must leave you'l as the man of the house is upset that I am up and not tending to his needs.
To: patriciaruth
I did what to a_Turk? Go re-read the record. I spoke the truth about the 'new and improved' islamotrash Turkey and offended someone. And all the while, Turkey was being hailed as our friend. By you and everyone else that defended those pond scum.

How many Russian women were sent to Afghanistan and Chechnya?
Stalingrad was a last stand...they gave rifles to prepubescent boys too.
Israel took women off combat units 20 years ago.

offended LOL! Generally you don't go in for understatement.

Read a few Medal Of Honor citations and you will begin to have a clue of what I'm talking about.I have done so, and I hear you. There have been guys - 19, 20 year-old guys - who have thrown their bodies on grenades to save others (thinking of the Marine Don Ruhl on Iwo Jima, specifically)...so as thrilled as I am that Pfc. Lynch survived and was rescued, I find myself rejecting the "hero" label at this point - unless it's used in the broader sense that everyone who serves this country is a certain kind of hero. I've just read too many war stories to use it so freely. (I didn't want to log in at the Washington Post site, so I have not yet heard all the details.)
That said, I'm proud of the job she did. (And I'm in awe of the guys who retrieved her.) Really proud, and really glad she made it.
Now, if we could just get the other ones back...

I heard on the cable news the other day that our special ops guys were "listening" to her for at least a day, and all they heard was whimpering and crying. She sounds like she was a wreck! That's when I got the initial impression that she was just a scared little girl. This is the straw that breaks your camel's back. I suppose if you had been shot, stabbed, had your bones broken, and were being electrocuted and perhaps raped 24 x 7 for days, you would be completely composed and speaking with Shakespearian eloquence? Indeed your words today have been the most preposterous remarks since Benedict Arnetts.
As a former Gulf War I er with 14 years of service, I say she is a hero. And you are obviously French!
