NORFOLK, Va. -- Bring the dolphins home! That's the message of one group of protesters who are mad at Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.
Members of PETA -- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals -- don't want dolphins used in the war effort.
The animals are trained by the Navy to detect underwater mines. The Norfolk, Va., based activists have faxed and e-mailed a letter to Rumsfeld with their objections.
PETA also doesn't like the idea of GIs using chickens and pigeons to detect a chemical attack. PETA argues that wars are human endeavors and that the animals "never enlisted."

I know an earlier version of this has already been posted, but I want these ridiculous Peta people to have as much exposure as possible. I personally believe Peta, NOW, NAMBLA, etc., are actually comprised of mentally unbalanced people.

Maybe we should draft PETA people to do our minesweeping for us. That would kill two birds with one stone, right?

I've got an idea. Why don't we use PETA to detect a chemical attack. We'll need to do some extensive testing first though. Just to see if it works.

We'll bring the animals home when PETA members demonstrate that they can serve as adequate substitutes.

I've been wondering when PETA would get into the act since the story first broke about the military using dolphins. "A day late and a dollar short", so to speak, for PETA to react

The dolphins don't want to come home. They are having too much fun and they love the attention.

Ok PETA. What about the job these dolphins are doing to save other dumb sealife by marking these mines? The mines aren't just a hazard only to humans.

Dolphins are smart.
If they really didn't like it, they could swim off when they are sent out to work.
Instead, the dolphins come back. And recievve treats and lots of affection from tthe Guys and Gals.
Sounds to ME as if PETA is prejudiced against dolphins! They are being "specieists"!
What can I say? I was raised by a biologist! LOL!

Would PETA support the right to arm bears? What a bunch of idiots.
