CENTRAL IRAQ (CNN) -- U.S. forces engaged members of Iraq's elite Republican Guard on Wednesday, part of a fresh coalition push toward Baghdad.
CNN's Karl Penhaul, who is embedded with the U.S. Army's V Corps, 11th Attack Helicopter Regiment, talked with anchor Daryn Kagan about the U.S.-led assault.

So the Iraqis are facing Abrams, Apaches, and Bradleys in pickup trucks with a machine gun.
I've said it before, I'll say it again. At this point, they're all "suicide attackers".

These people need to SHUT UP with regard to how long this is taking.
It takes 10 weeks to pick an American Idol...why should it take any less to LIBERATE A COUNTRY?

These are civilian pickups mounted with machine guns.By all accounts these have consistently a failure and effective suicidal. I wonder why they keep doing this.

We're paused..haven't they heard, bogged down with fierce resistance and we're out of supplies?I was going to ask how a pause could keep advancing like this? And does the media have a different definition of quagmire?

Seems like the RG has dispersed to avoid direct confrontation, but the B52s have pulverized them in their trenches. Instant burial.
So far, the RG is not enjoying much success, and based on the stupidity of their tactics, they will continue to bleed and die. They have dispensed with their armor and are taking on tanks with RPG's and AK-47s.
What is happening now mirrors a lot of GWI when the "elite" RG was pummeled from the air and reduced to a non-effective fighting force.

This is a big day for our side. Just got off the phone with my lefty brother, still harping about the fact that the Iraqis didn't greet our forces with parades. I asked him where were the brigades from other angry Arab countries he had predicted would come to Iraq's defense, and where were the terrorist bombings on our soil, also predicted by the left. Aren't these MISCALCULATIONS on their part?

They are greeting them in the north and providing intel in the south. There are still goons in the south that strike fear.Has he seen the torture room?

Shouldn't the thread title have a "Quagmire alert"?
