SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Marshall Tucker Band will play a May 1 concert organized as an alternative to the Dixie Chicks, who will be opening their U.S. tour at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville that day.
The concert was proposed by a radio talk show host as a way for fans to protest the anti-American remarks made by Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines during the European leg of the trio's tour.
"Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas," Maines told a London audience. The singer has since apologized, but the anti-Chicks sentiment has spread rapidly.
The South Carolina House of Representatives even got involved in the fracas by adopting a resolution asking the band to play a free concert for the troops and their families as a way of apologizing.
Mike Gallagher says people attending his concert who have Dixie Chicks tickets will sit in a special VIP section and attend a VIP reception.
All proceeds from the Marshall Tucker Band concert will buy food for military families and military communities, Gallagher said.

I'd rather see the Marshall Tucker Band than the Dixie Chicks anyway, even before Natalie Maines made a fool of herself.

I saw in an earlier article that this same D.J. was working with Charlie Daniels, and Toby Keith to play also. I hope that the BLIXIE Hicks play to an empty arena

The South Carolina House of Representatives even got involved in the fracas by adopting a resolutionThe government needs to stay out of this. We, the people, will speak with our wallets in the court of public opinion.

From their website:
The Marshall Tucker Band and its management strongly support the decision of our President, The Commander In Chief, in his quest to bring freedom and democracy to the people of Iraq as well as eliminate the oppressive and destructive forces that threatened our security and the future of the world. Above all, we support the troops, their families and our allies as they bravely carry out their mission. Marshall Tucker Band Leader and vocalist Doug Gray, a Vietnam Veteran, said the following:
We all, as Americans, should support the decision, made on behalf of our government, to ensure our future and the future of our children. To allow freedom, as it is today, to continue, we must protect all of the rights that I personally fought for, as well as all the other men and women we have lost in previous wars and conflicts to protect those rights. For that reason, I support this effort, and I know I am not alone in my beliefs. Support our troops. STAND UP FOR AMERICA!"

Wish I could be there, last saw them in Alamagordo in '80... or was it 81? Soooooooooo long ago.

Yaaaah, southern white boy rockabilly blues. If Stevie Ray were alive, he'd be there.

Always liked the Marshall Tucker Band.
Glad to hear they are on the side of the angels.

The singer has since apologized...BULL S##T!
That was NO apology!
What it was, at best, was a half a$$ed attempt at minimizing the damage that FAT NAT caused when she shot her mouth off!
When will these wanna-be reporters GET IT RIGHT?!?!?

You forget that the state of South Carolina is under economic boycott by the friends of the anti-war crowd. The confederate flag is such an important issue to democrats that they are refusing to spend their money in the Palmetto State. Well, turnaround's fair play. It's sweet, sweet justice that the ground floor of the anti-anti-war movement is the primo-target of the Bush haters. Go gettum SC Legislature.

I'd rather see the Marshall Tucker Band than the Dixie Chicks anyway, even before Natalie Maines made a fool of herself. Hell yeah!!

I must respectfully disagree. Government intervention in the Dixie Chix case crosses the line to infringe on our U.S. Constitution 1st Amendment.

The singer has since apologizedWhy should she. She said it, She ment it. Now come say it in Texas.
Stupid is as stupid does.

But SC Gvm't isn't madating any behavior on the Dixies. They aren't stopping the Dixies from playing, or coming to the state, or from speaking. The SC Legislature has simply expressed a "Sense of the Legislature" suggestion...
The South Carolina House of Representatives even got involved in the fracas by adopting a resolution asking the band to play a free concert for the troops and their families as a way of apologizing.
It's probably the genteel courtesy of the representatives of the citizens of South Carolina, that the legislature seeks to allow those in agreement with the Dixies, a chance to see the concert without violating the economic boycott.
To: NautiNurse
I agree. Government involvement CAN be considered censorship. Public involvement is free speech and free choice.
