Without going into detail, I'm personally happy to see a prudent limit on the number of troops first introduced into the theater.

SIckening how the press has not changed at all since my war...they would rather have a good story than a US victory, then they wonder why soldiers despise them.

Personally I would like to see the Joint Chiefs and the White House ban reporters and news media agencies. I mean a flat out No Access ! rule. Starting with CNN, NBC, and CBS ... then moving to those fish wrappers the NYT and Wash-Post, oh, and garbage wrapper for slime from Bean Town.

Well, you know what they say, kill all the reporters, and by morning, they would be sending out dispatches from hell...

These former military men shilling for the networks are as absurd as the people who give credence to their views and comments. It is ludicrous to believe that you can judge the wisdom of a campaign's conception or the success or failure of its execution until the passage of some meaningful time (certainly more than two weeks) and its evaluation beyond the discrete theatre of operations.
Are there compelling reasons to deploy a smaller, more nimble force in the Iraqi theatre? Might considerations involving North Korea, Afghanistan, the Phillipines and other places dictate how troops are arrayed? Are these retired generals privy to the other geopolitical threats and strategic considerations that influence these decisions? Doubtful.
My guess is they are buck chasers that the networks gladly spiff to create "news". And Hackworth is the worst. Has he been right about anything?
The administration should not get a pass on the prosecution of the war. But serious people will wait until there is a meanigful data set to analyze before passing judgment on the success of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Meanwhile, The New York Times, L.A. Times, MSNBC, CNN, ABC and CBS will make news cycle judgments hourly.

Did you hear this exchange? Just goes to show the idiot media spin. First they accuse Rummy of making the "plan", and then this.
Rumsfeld: I keep getting credit for it in the press, but the truth is -- I would be happy to take credit for it, but I can't. It was not my plan, it was General Franks' plan, and it was a plan that evolved over a sustained period of time, which I am convinced is an excellent plan.
Q: Mr. Secretary, are you distancing yourself from the plans? You know, every time you say --
Q: -- every time you say, "You know, it's not my plan; I'd like to take credit for it," the people around you are saying, "See? He is distancing himself."

Hackworth's credibility is down the toilet. The only question is, why do they put him on TV?

Gen. Myers should have specifically named a couple of retired officers as culprits and accused them of providing aid and comfort to the enemy in their public criticism of the war effort.

Same reasons know-nothings like Mike Farrell, George Clooney, Sean Penn and Janeane Garofalo get on. They are willing to make asses of themselves by pretending to know something about what they are talking about.
These vanities are part of the celebrity culture that influences the great mass of those who refuse to think for themselves and adopt 15-second sound byte pronouncements that sound serious, profound and well-reasoned. The retired generals fall in this category. Because they were generals, they must know. And because, as Jennings, Rather, Brokaw and their ilk constantly remind us, the administration only lies, we need to put our trust in these celebrities.
It is sad and pathetic, but a reality of our modern, intellectually lazy TV culture.

Most, if not all, of these so-called experts who are critical of the war-plan (and economy) are liberal democrats. It seems that they are trying, through their negativity, to make both do worse. And it is too obvious that they are trying to reconstruct the voter attitude in 2004 that was present in 1992. DNC tactics at its very worst here folks......
