I have to assume that, aside from their financial ties, the former socialists and current socialists who run Russia (and dominate France) are highly sympathetic to the socialist government of Iraq, and that the hope was to weaken America by boosting the prospects of Iraq. I agree with you completely. Socialism is a major factor behind the hatred for President Bush and America. America is an impediment to world socialism. This is also why the UN is typically so anti-American.
